Honest and seductive. Dancer and choreographer Vitor Hamamoto (Brazil, 1993) was inspired by the book Bitte Augen schließen by philosopher Byung-Chul Han. Hamamoto has struggled his entire life with feelings he could not put into words, and in Missing Names, the audience witnesses this personal quest.

What does it mean to be truly present? How does a body move when it fully surrenders? In a physically charged meditation, Hamamoto reveals that closing the eyes is not an end, but a transition – a moment where emptiness and chaos meet.

It would be sacrilege to hasten an act of sacrifice,” and that’s exactly what I avoid in my movement. Haste prevents me from contemplating the world around me. Any anger that arises does so without resentment, for it is part of my continuous quest for meaning in life.

— Vitor Hamamoto

Hamamoto dances with Grupo Cena 11, one of Brazil’s leading and boldest dance companies. Grupo Cena 11 was featured at the Holland Festival in 2024 with Eu não sou só eu em mim
