Marc Vanrunxt (1960, Belgium) has been active as a choreographer since the 1980s and is known for his minimalist and conceptual approach to dance. His work is characterised by a strong focus on the relationship between body, space and time.
From 1976 to 1981 Vanrunxt trained at the dance school of An Slootmaekers in Antwerp. After many collaborations and research projects, he made his debut in 1981 with his first performance, marking the beginning of a fruitful career with more than thirty works to his name.
In addition to his solo work, Vanrunxt collaborated with other artists and explored the boundaries of his own discipline. He entered into direct collaborations with composers, visual artists and costume designers.
Vanrunxt's work is strongly influenced by Central European dance on the one hand and by punk and abstract expressionism on the other. Balancing between mysticism and materialism, he emphasises the expressiveness of everything that is visible, audible and tangible on stage, with the body as the carrier of meaning.
Together with Patrick Sterckx and choreographer Alexander Baervoets, Vanrunxt founded the non-profit organisation for dance Kunst/Werk in 2001.
