Since 2020, Marc Vanrunxt has worked on a series of projects under the title (based on a true story). Together with dancers, musicians and visual artists, he created eleven short pieces in which encounters, exchange and spontaneity are central. After a week in the studio, the result is presented in alternative spaces, like visual artist Katleen Vinck’s studio, or in the open air - parks, churches, museums, or simply on the street.
(based on a true story) #12 LACRIMOSA will see Vanrunxt dancing within this format himself for the first time. Together with mezzosoprano and composer Els Mondelaers, he created a unique performance for Welcome to Asbestos Hall.
This twelfth edition has Vanrunxt bring the ongoing theme of tears to a close. This motif was the common thread in various pieces, from Lamentatio, the solo for Marie De Corte (2009), to lostmovements for Jan Martens (2019) and Freie Form with Samantha van Wissen (2024). The latter is featured at this year’s Holland Festival as well on June 24 and 25 in Frascati.
