Marc Vanrunxt (Belgium, 1960) is a dancer and choreographer. Vanrunxt studied at the dance school An Slootmaekers in Antwerp from 1976 to 1981. After many collaborations and research, he debuted his first performance in 1981, marking the beginning of a prolific career, with now over thirty works under his name. Alongside his solo work, Vanrunxt collaborated with others, reaching beyond the limit of his own craft, and partnering directly with other artists such as composers, visual artists, or costume designers.
His work is primarily influenced by Central European dance on one hand and by punk and abstract expressionism on the other. Hovering between mysticism and materialism, he emphasises the expressiveness of all that can be seen, heard, and felt on stage, whilst taking the body as bearer of meaning.
Together with Patrick Sterckx and choreographer Alexander Baervoets, Vanrunxt founded in 2001 the non-profit organisation for dance Kunst/Werk.
