Associate artist Trajal Harrell engages in conversation with dancer and costume designer Stephen Galloway, whose style has contributed to several iconic images in the fashion industry.


During his time as a dancer at Ballett Frankfurt under the direction of William Forsythe, Galloway collaborated with notable figures such as Jan Fabre, Christian Moeller, and Jan Lauwers. In 1997, he was invited as a creative advisor for Mick Jagger, and since then, he has worked with the Rolling Stones. Galloway served as head costume designer and style coordinator for Ballett Frankfurt from 2000 to 2004 and has worked with companies such as the American Ballet Theatre, Mariinsky Ballet, Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris, Scottish Ballet, and the Finnish National Ballet.


In addition to his work as a costume designer, Galloway is also an active fashion photographer, building a successful musical career, and publishing various magazines. He is also active in brand consultancy. Galloway has organized fashion shows for Yves Saint Laurent, Costume National, Versace, and Issey Miyake, where he served as creative director from 1993 to 1997. He has also consulted for luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Saab. As a musician, Galloway has released albums including From This Day On (2002) and The Return of Lubrious (2009).
