Lulu
De Nationale Opera
The first edition under festival director Ruth Mackenzie featured lots of work presented (often free of charge) beyond the walls of theatre venues. Liam Gillick made an installation on Museum Square, and various DJs played sets under the title of House in your House that were live-streamed during the opening night. In various places around the city, visitors could lie down in bed out in the street with actresses who would give a one-on-one performance of Fernando Rubio’s work for them. Furthermore, Adelheid Roosen and Çiğdem Yüksel had a photo project throughout the city. As for theatre, there were familiar big names like Robert Wilson, Eva Maria Westbroek and Ai Weiwei.

Welcome to the Holland Festival archive! The history of our festival dates back to 1947. Through the programs of each festival edition we aim to tell this history here. Currently our archive has been digitised from 1990 onwards, more history is to follow soon. Sadly some information is only available in Dutch but we aim to be as bilingual as possible. For additions or tips send an email to [email protected].
