Die Stunde da wir nichts voneinander wussten
Peter Handke, Thalia Theater
2016 saw the Netherlands hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU. With its Edges of Europe programme, the Holland Festival focussed on Europe, a continent in flux, with a changing geopolitical role. A great many makers were from Europe’s border regions, like DakhaBrakha from Ukraine.
Another focus was on artist collectives. For instance, actors collective Wunderbaum was represented with four productions. Naturally, the festival also featured big names, with Tanztheater Wuppertal returning to Amsterdam and Louis Andriessen presenting new work. Special guest this year was Olga Neuwirth, one of the leading and most interesting figures in composition.

Welcome to the Holland Festival archive! The history of our festival dates back to 1947. Through the programs of each festival edition we aim to tell this history here. Currently our archive has been digitised from 1990 onwards, more history is to follow soon. Sadly some information is only available in Dutch but we aim to be as bilingual as possible. For additions or tips send an email to [email protected].
