The musical programme devoted to Iannis Xenakis starts in the afternoon with a performance of the unusually light and colourful Phlegra, dating from 1975. The concert features two other works by two composers receiving special attention at this year’s festival: Wolfgang Rihm’s cello concerto Versuchung; and the world première of Richard Ayres’ No 46. The evening concert is dedicated solely to Terretektorh, in which Xenakis experimented with the acoustics of his music, by putting some of his musicians in the auditorium. The Residentie Orkest will play the piece twice. The audience is invited to change seats for the second runthrough. In between, Arne Deforce will play the magnificent cello piece Nomos Alpha.
