The legendary movie classic Battleship Potemkin has a new musical score. Sergej Eisenstein’s 1925 masterpiece has been put to music by British composer Michael Nyman, famous for his award winning film music for Jane Campion’s The Piano. Nyman has produced a highly energetic score, written in his personal brand of minimal music. Consonant with the film’s dramatic scenes and sharp editing, the music surges on, putting the audience right in the midst of the action. At the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ Nyman and his complete band will play the music live, accompanying a screening of the new, restored version of the film.
