General Macbeth (Fedja van Huêt) and his best friend Banquo (Roeland Fernhout) return from the battlefield victorious, their swords still dripping with blood. Everywhere the name of Macbeth resounds. He’s a hero, a killer in the service of king and country. But can Macbeth stop killing now the war is over? Strange creatures foretell that he will be king. Spurred on by his ruthless wife (Chris Nietvelt) he kills his way to the throne. He becomes a tyrant, murdering anyone that stands in his way. But the more he kills, the more he is consumed by fear and guilt. In Macbeth, director Johan Simons stages a play about the seductiveness of evil. Macbeth will be performed exclusively during the Holland Festival in Amsterdam.
