In The Crime, the third part of the Musil trilogy The man without qualities, Guy Cassiers lays bare a fascinating landscape of the soul. The piece, written by Yves Petry, has two intertwining stories: that of the murderer Moosbrugger and an anonymous prostitute; and the story of the writer Musil himself and his former lover Herma. There is no doubt that Moosbrugger is guilty of the death of the prostitute, but what responsibility does Musil have for the death of Herma? The ghosts of the two women confront the murderer and the writer with their (mis)deeds. Are they the voices in their heads? Normality? What motivates these two men? What do they represent? Genius? Or aberration?
