A beloved Holland Festival tradition: opera in the open air. On 22 June in Park Frankendael, you can enjoy Boris Godoenov free of charge. Bring your picnic basket, invite your friends and have an unforgettable evening.
Boris Godoenov, the opera by Russian composer Modest Moessorgski (1839-1881) is about the dark side of power and what comes of a desire for power. Director Kirill Serebrennikov (Rostov-on-Don, 1969), who is also a renowned filmmaker, drew from his own experiences in Russia for the direction, and created a current-day interpretation of this timeless story.
Together with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra led by the versatile and inspired conductor Vasily Petrenko, the piece promises to be a monumental musical production. A large part of the Chorus of the Dutch National Opera will play a major supporting role in the performance alongside an ensemble of singers of the highest calibre. Bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, praised for his ability to fully get into the characters he plays in both his vocal delivery and acting skills, will make his debut at the Dutch National Opera as Boris Godunov.
