Wherever artists set foot in our cities, forgotten areas are given a new impulse. They set themselves up in old factories, churches or office buildings, injecting a new dynamic and making the city a more human place to live in. In the fifth Boekman lecture, Jeroen Boomgaard (lecturer Art and Public Space) and Eva de Klerk (city maker, initiator of the NDSM area) examine the significance of art and culture in the city. Using the examples of current projects, they discuss the importance of getting local people on board and the role of the artist in giving the city a kiss of life.
