From the seminal opening scene to the enigmatic finale, Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey remains inextricably connected to its soundtrack. Traditional narrative is replaced by the emotional power of classical music by Ligeti, Khachaturian, Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss. This screening of the recently restored film is accompanied by a live performance of the original score by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir conducted by André de Ridder, who also took the helm for the world premiere at London’s Southbank Centre. Prepare for a breathtaking adventure, in which – also thanks to the special location – the spaciousness of the film and the music can be fully experienced.
