A bear and an idiot play the lead roles in Massimo Furlan’s fascinating piece about the boundaries and ambiguities between human and animal, nature and civilization, love and violence. Supported by the hypnotic rhythms of British post-punk band Killing Joke, a series of theatrical still lives with a minimum of movement unfold, drawn from a range of aesthetics, from the punk concert to the comic book, from fairy tales to cartoons; scenes that challenge the audience to build their own story. Furlan and his company are interestedin the paradoxes and contradictions that both the bear and the idiot carry with them. The bear at once frightening and comforting, wild and vulnerable; the idiot primitive and tender, cruel and innocent.
