World Opera Lab

Profile

World Opera Lab, established by Miranda Lakerveld, creates intercultural innovative opera performances based on cultural exchange, hoping to shine the light on contemporary social topics and be a bridge for cultural differences. Their pieces aim to tackle societal issues through a poetical and interdisciplinary lens. Myth, music, and dance come together to offer transhistorical and celebratory productions that are presented across the world, from the Azadi Tower in Tehran to Mercatorplein in Amsterdam West. These are co-created in special collaborations with a myriad of parties, ranging from activists and local residents to community or religious leaders, and take inspiration from traditional musical theatre practices of multiple cultures including Tibet, Guatamala, Japan, and Iran.
