In the centenary year of the Armenian genocide, De Balie and Holland Festival look back on the events of 1915, discussing the significance of this traumatic event. How do the horrors of a hundred years ago still impact on Armenian culture? What is the role of art in the remembrance of the genocide and how can it offer an alternative narrative to overcome this collective trauma?

Dr. Ton Zwaan, emeritus professor Genocidestudies and Anthropology (UvA) and author at the NIOD (Institute for War-, Holocaust- and Genocidestudies), will give an introductory lecture.
