The New York ensemble Alarm Will Sound presents the world premiere of their new, multi-media production of John Cage’s Song Books, arguably Cage’s best work in musical theatre. Song Books is a collection of compositions, songs, electronic music and plays which can be combined in endless ways. It contains an astonishing range of styles, including pieces that were written entirely according to his own taste rather than with his customary use of chance procedures. Over the last ten years, Alarm Will Sound have built themselves a reputation for their energetic performances of today’s most innovative music. The ensemble combine virtuosity with vision and rock star appeal to radically transform Cage’s 1970 composition into an exciting musical and theatrical event for the 21st century.
