To the hypnotic rhythms of Ravel’s Boléro twelve female dancers rotate in an exceptionally tight choreography, each round a pole of her own. Inevitably, this endless march brings to mind a mechanism which the women are part of, as workers in an art factory, the cogs in a big machine. Révolution is the first part of Olivier Dubois’ project Étude critique pour un trompe-l’œil. Nothing in Dubois’ choreography refers to the erotic act of pole dancing, the Frenchman instead plays an exciting game with the expectations of his audience.
