What is your identity? Who are you really? What are your roots and where is home? Inspired by the themes of Bill T. Jones’ work, the Poetry Circle is organising an evening exploring all these questions. Three spoken word artists, each from very different backgrounds, will present their work and reflect on this topic. Sjaan Flikweert gives a live performance of her audiovisual spoken word-compilation, composed by Marc Alberto and directed by Angela Tellier. Poet and songwriter Jörgen Gario UNOM, who was born on the island of Sint Maarten, combines guitar and ukelele with lyrics in Dutch, English and Papiamento. And Rachel Rumai Diaz uses spoken word as a dynamic bridge between art and political activism.
