A beloved tradition of the Holland Festival: open-air opera! On June 22, you can enjoy Boris Godunov for free in Park Frankendael. Bring your picnic basket, invite your friends, and experience an unforgettable evening. 

 

Boris Godunov, by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) is about the dark side of power and what comes of a desire for power. Director Kirill Serebrennikov (Rostov-on-Don, 1969), who is also a renowned filmmaker, drew from his own experiences in Russia for the direction, and created a current-day interpretation of this timeless story.  

Together with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra led by the versatile and inspired conductor Vasily Petrenko, the piece promises to be a monumental musical production. A large section of the Chorus of Dutch National Opera will play a supporting role in the performance, alongside an ensemble of top-tier vocal performers, alongside an ensemble of top-tier vocal performers. Bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, praised for his ability to fully get into the characters he plays in both his vocal delivery and acting skills, will make his debut at the Dutch National Opera as Boris Godunov.
