Dutch National Opera
Profile
Dutch National Opera (DNO) was founded in 1964, then still as Dutch Opera Foundation. Dutch National Opera creates and performs dramatic musical art, focusing on quality, diversity and innovation. This is expressed by taking a fresh approach to the opera classics, rediscovering repertoire that has seldom been performed and creating brand-new operas. Since 2014, Dutch National Opera has merged with Dutch National Ballet and Het Muziektheater Amsterdam to form Dutch National Opera & Ballet, with the theatre Nationale Opera & Ballet on the Waterlooplein as its home base. DNO has its own top-quality chorus and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra / Netherlands Chamber Orchestra as its regular orchestral partners. Since 2019, Sophie de Lint is director of Dutch National Opera.
