Two acts from the Turkish rock scene perform at Paradiso. With their brand of solid, melodious rock songs and politically motivated lyrics, mor ve ötesi is one of the most popular bands in Turkey today. The band broke into the mainstream with the album Dünya Yalan Söylüyor (2004), one of the most important releases in the history of Turkish rock. Their album Büyük Düşler (2006) was voted album of the year by the Turkish Rolling Stone. When they represented Turkey in the Eurovision contest of 2008 their name was definitely made.
Şebnem Ferah – for whom this is her first performance in the Netherlands – is Turkey’s undisputed rock diva. Debuting in 1996, she took the pop and folk dominated Turkish charts by storm, a feat unheard of for a female rock singer in Turkey. Since, her compelling songs, her rebellious lyrics about love and women’s rights and her energetic live shows have made her a popular fixture on the Turkish rock scene.
