Markus Stockhausen gives us two world premieres, a homage to Paul Klee and a symbiosis of trumpet, clarinet and orchestra. Stockhausen is the son of Karlheinz, but just as versed in jazz as in contemporary and classical music. His homage to Klee,Tanzendes Licht, written for solo trumpet, big band and string orchestra, is inspired by the image of dancing sparks on the sea, an allegory for eternal life. Symbiosis was written as a double concerto for Markus’ wife, clarinet player Tara Bouman, and himself. The music combines their different tone colours and playing techniques in jazz, contemporary and classical music. The two world premieres, called Yin and Yang, were commissioned by the Metropole Orchestra and the Holland Festival.
