The Thomas Adès showcase will be continued on Sunday 19 June with a special chamber music concert in the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. Members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with Adès at the grand piano, will play chamber music by Charles Ives, Per Nørgård and Ingolf Dahl, plus two works composed by Adès himself. The finale of the evening is Adès’ Piano Quintet, a relatively conventional sonata which develops in a less than conventional way. Before the break the orchestra will play Adès’ Arcadiana, a string quartet consisting of seven miniatures, evoking seven emblems of paradise. In addition to these two works the orchestra will perform Tone Roads No 1 by Charles Ives, Through Thorns by Per Nørgård and the Concerto a tre by Ingolf Dahl.
