Star tenor Jonas Kaufmann has never performed solo in the Netherlands. The Holland Festival invites him to make a rare appearance with The Hague Philharmonic in The Concertgebouw as part of the festival’s seventieth birthday celebration. Recognised internationally as one of the leading artists of our time, his rich voice and subtle interpretations allow him to per­form an especially wide repertoire. In the first half of this matinée concert he will sing Verdi. He will sing Wagner after the break: the breathtaking final scene of the first act of Die Walküre. The special guest will be the internationally acclaimed Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek; Kaufmann has performed frequently with her in Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
