The festival performance Turan Dokht is an ‘intercultural rewriting’ of Puccini’s famous opera Turandot. In this lecture the Iranian professor Hamid Dabashi delves into the influence Persian literature, music and other art forms have had on Western and Asian art. Dabashi is the Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York. He has written books on Iranian cinema, art and history, including Persophilia (2015), in which he propagates his love for Iranian culture. There is also live Iranian music and an interview moderated by the Iranian-Dutch historian Peyman Jafari.
