The Holland Festival and Royal Theatre Carré bring the sensational Broadway hit musical Fela! to the Amsterdam stage. Fela! is a provocative mix of music, dance and theatre, recounting the life story of the legendary Nigerian musician and political activist Fela Kuti, who achieved international stardom in the seventies with his pioneering brand of Afrobeat music. In his political lyrics Kuti attacked the Nigerian regime and became the voice of the disillusioned African masses, who were suffering in poverty under a new elite of postcolonial rulers. Tony Award winning director Bill T. Jones and his cast deliver a vibrant show, in which Kuti’s courage, passion and resolve pulse through in the boundless energy of his music.
