In this lecture researcher and publicist Albert Jan Kruiter looks at the current democratic crisis through Alexis de Tocqueville’s eyes. Festival artist Romeo Castellucci’s performance La democrazia in America is inspired by the French philosopher’s most important work. Many people, including the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, consider it to be the single most important book about democracy. Kruiter offers insight into De Tocqueville’s thinking.
