One of the best ways of discovering Amsterdam's colonial history is on the street. The Black Heritage Tour is a guided tour around the city centre, passing the many vestiges of the history of slavery. From Dam Square you will walk with a guide in the area around Dam Square and the Red-Light District, past the West-Indisch Huis and to the former headquarters of the Dutch East India Company. You will hear recently discovered stories about a black community's presence in Amsterdam since the 16th century.
