Barbed Wire is a musical-visual project that hopes to encapsulate the reality of all Syrians forced to leave Syria. Oud player Issam Rafea (also performing at this Holland Festival as the conductor of The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians) recorded this work with an improvisational inspiration. His songs have a fresh and innovative style, in which he produces, with his oud, new voices, and sound spectra, hitherto unheard from the oud. Kevork Mourad is a Syrian visual artist that brings the songs to life in drawings that appear to be created simultaneously, live, on stage. Barbed Wire is an emotional quest for a world without borders and barricades.
