The Stedelijk Museum and the Holland Festival have joined forces to present a major work by American artist John Baldessari (b. 1931) this summer, especially commissioned for the Amsterdam Museum Square. Baldessari, who turns 80 in June, has been internationally acclaimed as a conceptual artist for more than five decades. He gained worldwide fame for his distinctive work in photography, painting, video and film that ingeniously combines text and image. He has also conceived a variety of artworks specifically for public spaces. Baldessari’s exhibit will mark a major milestone in defining the Museum Square as the cultural gateway to the Stedelijk Museum.
