Victor Pilon
Profile
Victor Pilon (Quebec, 1958) is a director, set designer, visual designer and photographer. He was the Canadian government’s official photographer for many years, documenting (over 30) visits by the British royal family. His work can be seen in the Canada Council Art Bank, the Library and Archives Canada’s collection, and in galleries throughout Canada. He creates theatre productions and large-scale public events and has built an impressive career as a performance artist.
In the early 1990s, Victor Pilon started production company Lemieux Pilon 4D Art together with multi-media artist Michel Lemieux. As designers and directors, they combine theatre, film, dance, poetry, visual arts, music and sound. They use new technology in order to create unique worlds and intensify the audience’ sensory and emotional experience.
Their artistic practice is wide and varied, as seen in their splendid adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s great classics, The Tempest. With NORMAN, they delved into the world of Canadian film animator Norman McLaren with dance and moving images, while the installation Dreamscapes was presented at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts. They also work for the operas of Montreal and Quebec and have made various shows for Cirque du Soleil. Continuum, an immersive show based on the music of Philip Glass, was created especially for the Rio Tinto planetarium in Montreal.
