One of the strong points of art is that it can unlock hitherto unknown worlds to the audience. A few cases in point featuring at this year’s Holland Festival are the world of the Chinese clubs of the Thirties and the traditional world of kunqu, the travels through Tokyo at the Frascati Theatre and the spatial fantasies of Xenakis. Like science, art is in the business of exploration. And just as science tells the world about its findings in publications, art makes itself public in the artwork or the performance. Only, much of this work does not reach the public. The Holland Festival and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences offer you the opportunity to meet with many wondrous worlds in a special programme titled A Different Order. A wide selection of artists and scientists are ready to take you along on their very special adventures.
