Tan Dun
Profile
Composer and conductor Tan Dun is an UNESCO Global Goodwill Ambassador. He is known for music that pushes the boundaries of classical music by using multimedia and the combination of Western and Eastern traditions. His compositions can be heard throughout the world and are performed by top orchestras, at leading opera houses, international festivals and on radio and television. He composed the first Internet Symphony on commission from Google/YouTube, a work that reached over 23 million online listeners. His multimedia work The Map, world premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and cellist Yo Yo Ma, was performed live in more than thirty countries. He composed the music for the 2008 Beijing Olympics on commission from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Tan Dun has led orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan.
