Octavia is a Roman tragedy, probably written by Seneca, about the Roman emperor Nero, who divorced his wife Octavia and then had her killed in exile. The Stanislavsky Electrotheater's opera Octavia is about the revolutionary Leon Trotsky and the Russian revolution. During this lecture at Spui25, the Russia specialist Sjeng Scheijen will be looking for connections between the Roman Empire of Seneca's Octavia and contemporary Russia. The opera makers, Dmitri Kourliandski and Boris Yukhananov, will discuss the urgency of Octavia with Simone Peek. Lieke Marsman will explain the relationship between poetry and tyranny.
