After the terrible years of war in the first half of the previous century, international arts festivals were established across Europe, including the Holland Festival, Festival d'Avignon and the Edinburgh International Festival. This lecture at Spui25 addresses the question of where the need for performing arts came from.
Chaired by Diederik Burgersdijk, this lecture focuses on three periods in the Holland Festival's history: the early years, the turbulent 1970s and 1980s, and finally the present. The lecture will include images from the Holland Festival archive that have never been shown before.
Guests include journalist Max Arian and Annet Lekkerkerker (managing director of Holland Festival).
