Richard Rijnvos

Profile

Dutch composer Richard Rijnvos (1964) was already heavily influenced by John Cage while studying under Jan van Vlijmen. In his own words, after his encounter with Cage's work, 'everything I had learned was swept off the table and all sacred cows were slaughtered without mercy'. Rijnvos' work has been called that of a 'sound architect': construction, perspective and design are more important to him than artistic freedom, lyrical self-expression or musical drama.
