Ola Maciejewska

Profile

Ola Maciejewska (Poland) is a choreographer based in Paris. She is well known for her interdisciplinary approach to dance based on historical research, offering perspective on the frictions between materiality and ephemerality, movement and metamorphosis.

Her academic career as a dancer begins at the National Ballet School in Poland, continues at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, and culminates in a master's in Contemporary Theatre and Dance Studies at the University of Utrecht. Whilst collecting this academic baggage, she developed practice-based research, entitled Loïe Fuller: Research (2011), which takes modern-dance pioneer Loïe Fuller’s work as a model and inspiration. The performance that resulted from this project went on to be presented in France for the Opening of CND Pantin in 2015, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Poland, Portugal and several venues in Holland. It also informs the rest of Maciejewska’s oeuvre, with the particular proposal of new readings of Fuller’s iconic serpentine dances, as seen in BOMBYX MORI (2015).

Between 2016 and 2018, Maciejewska was an associate artist at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen in Normandie.

In 2022, she received a fellowship from the Watermill Center, founded by Robert Wilson, and was appointed associate artist for the Campement Artistique pour Littoral project a second time as part of the Mondes Nouveaux by le Ministère de la Culture.
