Philip Glass
Profile
Philip Glass (1937) is one of the pioneers of minimal music. He has been a guest at the Holland Festival regularly since 1974 with pieces that include Another Look at Harmony - Part IV and The Photographer, both commissioned by the festival. He broke through internationally in 1976 with the opera Einstein on the Beach. He wrote music for films like Koyaanisqatsi, La Belle et la Bête from Jean Cocteau and the series Tales from the Loop, and he worked with the poet Allen Ginsberg, pop giants Leonard Cohen and David Bowie. His autobiography Words Without Music: A Memoir was published in 2015.
