Arno Schuitemaker
Profile
After Arno Schuitemaker (Amsterdam, 1976) completed the Aerospace Engineering programme at the TU Delft, he embarked on a new path. He started a contemporary dance programme at the Fontys Dansacademie and took his degree in choreography in 2007. Schuitemaker has since earned a place for himself as one of the most remarkable makers of the new generation. His work was featured in more than twenty countries. He was awarded the award for most impressive dance production by the Dutch Association of Theatre and Concert Hall Directorates VSCD in October 2019 for The Way You Sound Tonight. From the jury report: ‘The Way You Sound Tonight from Arno Schuitemaker is one of those theatre experiences you wish would go on forever. (..) Schuitemaker is able to make all the different elements fit together.’ The piece premiered at the Holland Festival a year earlier.
Both the German magazine tanz and the English magazine Dance Europe called him ‘one of the leading contemporary dance makers in the Netherlands.’ In 2022, Schuitemaker worked with Pierre Audi and Jean Kalman on the opera Orphée et Eurydice (from Gluck) in Florence.
