ITA-ensemble
Profile
Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (ITA) is an epitome of the Dutch performing arts. The theatre in the centre of Amsterdam is home to its own ensemble of actors (the ITA ensemble), as well as to many other dance and theatre makers from the Netherlands and abroad. Besides their Amsterdam base, the ensemble of world-class actors and a team of prominent directors performs on more than a hundred stages throughout the world. Together, the theatre and ensemble form a unique institution that programmes with a contemporary vision, produces and inspires and is the location of choice for large festivals, including the Holland Festival.
As one of Holland Festival’s regular partners the ITA ensemble presented co-productions in recent years such as Age of Rage (2021, Ivo van Hove), The Cherry Orchard (2019, Simon McBurney), Roman Tragedies (2008 and 2018, Ivo van Hove) and Obsession (2017, Ivo van Hove).
The ITA ensemble regularly welcomes high-profile international guest directors such as Thomas Ostermeier, Johan Simons, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Katie Mitchell, Grzegorz Jarzyna, Luk Perceval and Guy Cassiers, and representatives of the new generation like Simon Stone, Maren E. Bjørseth and Robert Icke. The ITA ensemble’s acclaimed production of Een klein leven, based on the novel A Little Life by American Hanya Yanagihara, had its premiere in 2018, and Ramsey Nasr received the Louis d'Or (the award for best male lead) in 2019 for his portrayal of Jude in the play.
