It’s a band. It’s a concept. It’s a spectacle. It’s The Irrepressibles. Led by singer Jamie McDermott, this ten-man British group have carved a new frontier in pop performance. The elaborate staging mirrors the decadence of the Weimar cabaret of the twenties and the Belle Époque at the end of the 19th century. The musical influences range from Gershwin to Bowie, from Kurt Weill to Kate Bush. Over the richly orchestrated melodies soars the fragile, Antony Hegarty-esque vocal of McDermott, leading us into a mystical world of deeply felt love, anger, lust and loss. Especially for the Holland Festival, the group has created a new version of its latest show. Irrepressible, irresistible, unmissable.
