Future Festivals Meet-up

Eurosonic Noorderslag, ROEF, Green Events, Verenigde Podiumkunstenfestivals

Please note this event is invite only.

Festivals are working to become more sustainable. Since there are more and better ideas to be had together than alone, the Holland Festival is organising the first joint meet-up with other festivals to realise the good intentions.

As a festival, we aim to not only make art that is about sustainability but to really do something, too. How might festivals be organised in a more sustainable manner? Future Festivals Meet-up is a conference for professionals and others who are interested. Organisers from different festivals in the Netherlands, like Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) and ROEF, will speak with each other and the audience about how they might operate more sustainably and what the solutions of the future are.

Led by experts in the field of sustainably and event management, they will explore the possibilities for everything from policy to execution and collaboration with sustainable local entrepreneurs. What do we know now, and what goals do we set for ourselves for 2025? This edition constitutes the starting point of a biannual meet-up. Its next edition will take place in January 2023 on ESNS, with a follow-up every six months. You are most welcome to come listen and perhaps contribute!

Background

Throughout the day, two moderators will walk us through various topics relating to a more sustainable organisation of festivals. Eurosonic Noorderslag and Holland Festival have joined hands and have decided on the following topics of discussion together with Green Events: government sustainability policies, local collaboration, change management and the status quo of sustainably organising festivals.

Organisations from the widest range of performing arts festivals are invited to have a discussion: theatre festivals in theatres, pop festivals in nature areas, hybrid dance festivals. These are organisations that ordinarily barely get around to sharing their experience in the field of sustainable organisation - or the lack thereof.

These conversations will form the basis for a baseline measurement: as a festival country, where does the Netherlands stand in its attempts to make festivals greener? After this June’s edition, Eurosonic Noorderslag will host the next edition in January, where we will be able to continue working on a collective green code.
