This year’s Holland Festival pays special attention to Thomas Adès (1971), who after Benjamin Britten is the second ‘boy wonder’ of English music, and one of the most prominent composers and conductors of his generation. Friday 17 June Adès will make his debut as conductor of the RoyalConcertgebouw Orchestra at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In addition to the Prologue of the Flying Dutchman by the Dutch composer Matthijs Vermeulen, Adès will conduct three of his own works, notably the colossal Tevot and the Dutch première of a new commission.
