Djino Alolo Sabin

Profile

Djino Alolo (1992) grew up in Kisangani, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A self-taught hip-hop dancer, he started his career with the Bad Boyz group, voted Best Street Dance Group of the city in 2009 and 2011. In 2011 his dancing also won him the title of Best Dancer of Orientale Province. In 2008 the Bad Boyz were spotted by the choreographer Faustin Linyekula. Linyekula then invited Alolo to participate in a five-year programme in contemporary dance at Studios Kabako, where he studied with Hafiz Dhaou, Ula Sickle, Andréya Ouamba, Sylvain Prunenec and Boyzie Cekwana among others. In the same period Alolo also studied psychology at the University of Kisangani. In 2013 he attended a course at the Ecole des Sables, Senegal, in association with P.A.R.T.S., Brussels. There he was spotted by the French choreographer Olivier Dubois who invited him to dance in his production Souls (performed in Rotterdam in 2014). Following the Souls tour Djino Alolo settled in France. In 2016 he received the Adami Talents Dance Award and joined Maguy Marin’s company, dancing in the revival of May B. Since 2017 he has toured with Boris Charmatz’s show 10,000 Gestures and since 2018 with Dominique Brun’s Pierre Loup. In 2015 Debout–Se Relever, his first dance creation, was co-produced with Faustin Linyekula’s Studios Kabako. Piki Piki is his second work, a solo performance also produced by Studios Kabako. In parallel to his dance career, Djino Alolo is a rapper and musician, known by his stage name Seigneur Dji.
