DD Dorvillier

Profile

D.D. Dorvillier (June 1967, San Juan, Puerto Rico) is an American dancer, choreographer, and teacher, based in France. After a BA in Dance from Bennington College in Vermont, she began to create performances in and for New York City in 1989, before enlarging her reach internationally from 2004 on. Dorvillier settled in France in 2010.

Before her relocation, Dorvillier lived and worked at the Matzoh Factory (Brooklyn), a former factory, which, along with choreographer Jennifer Monson, she converted into a space for artistic experimentation in 1991. This space and the learnings she earned there work as the base of her original works. Those are rooted in the challenge of pre-established definitions, including her own, of dance and choreography.

In 2000, she founded human future dance corps, her own company. Together, they presented her performances at The Kitchen Dance Theater Workshop and PS 122 in New York, at the Kaaitheater in Brussels, ImPulsTanz in Vienna, DeSingel in Antwerp, Hau/Hebel am Ufer Berlin, and CDCN Atelier de Paris/Carolyne Carlson Paris, to name a few.

She was an associate artist-researcher with the Exerce master at ICI-CCN Montpellier from 2017 to 2019. After that, she became associate artist at CDCN Le Dancing Dijon Bourgogne-Franche-Comté until 2022.
