Born in Mexico as Ana Lucia, DJ Coco María grew up surrounded by music. She moved to Berlin and London later on as a musical globetrotter for whom sharing music came first, and to this end began collecting music. First on CD, and later, when she moved to London, on vinyl. She hunted down Afro-Latino rhythms from Central and South America and the Caribbean and discovered obscure samba, charanga and cumbia gems. But jazz and soul are part of her musical DNA and collection as well.

Her passion and expertise led to a weekly radio show: Club Coco on Worldwide FM, music guru Gilles Peterson’s online radio channel. In 2021 she put together compilation CDs for Bongo Joe, the Swiss record label specialising in global grooves, on which she made her debut as a singer and producer as well. In addition to this, Coco has worked as a curator for various festivals.
