Koninklijk Theater Carré

Address: Amstel 115 /125, 1018 EM Amsterdam

Accessibility information
Carré is a monumental building, so there are many small steps. If required, we will gladly guide you through the theatre to your seat in the auditorium.

There are three lifts in the building. The first lift takes you to our Café Foyer and the Grand Café. This lift is located behind a door next to the stairs to the Café Foyer. The lift door opens manually and is heavy for some visitors to open. The lift must be operated manually, which is done by holding down the button. With a large wheelchair, there may not be room to sit in the lift at the same time as the party. The flexible threshold from the lift to the Grand Café is 2.5 cm. As a result, the lift does not seem to stop quite at floor level.

Wheelchair spaces:
Please note: The seating arrangement may be different due to modified guidelines.

Royal Theatre Carré has three wheelchair spaces. Are you coming together with someone else? Then one or two seats are available next to the wheelchair spaces.

Please contact the Holland Festival box office before purchasing tickets.

Rollator: It is possible to enter the auditorium with a rollator. We ask you to contact the Holland Festival box office before buying tickets. Before the performance, the rollator will be placed outside the auditorium by a member of staff. After the performance, it will be returned to your seat.

Mobility scooters: We ask you to contact the Holland Festival Box Office before purchasing tickets. If you come to the theatre with a mobility scooter, you may be able to use a loaner rollator or wheelchair to get to your seat in the auditorium. When the performance ends, a staff member will bring the loaner rollator or wheelchair back to your seat so you can return to your mobility scooter. During the performance, we will park the mobility scooter near the theatre hall. It is not possible to enter the auditorium with a mobility scooter.

Hearing aid
Royal Theatre Carré has a loop system. On the evening of the performance you can pick up the loop at our cloakroom on the ground floor. We ask a € 10 deposit for this. We have a loop with simple headphones and a loop you can connect to your own hearing aid via minijack. You can then also bring your own headphones which you can connect to the transmitter of the loop using this minijack.

Toilets
In Carré, you will find two adapted toilets on the ground floor. These are marked with the wheelchair symbol. Check our accessibility map for the exact location. The adapted toilets are spacious and equipped with brackets next to the toilet and an adapted sink. Furthermore, the toilets are equipped with an alarm system. Our toilets comply with KTG's seal of approval and the standards of Integral Accessibility Standards (ITs 2018).

Accessibility & parking
The theatre's entrance is located on the Amstel river in the heart of Amsterdam. There are two entrances to enter the theatre. For visitors with a seat in the gallery, there is a separate door. Visitors with a ticket for the Stalles, parterre, loge or balcony can enter through the main entrance. The main entrance is entered through an automatic revolving door. On the right-hand side, at about 1 metre, you will find a delay button to make the door turn more slowly. At busy times during the walk-in of a show, the setting of the door is adjusted to sliding. Please note that crowds often create queues at the doors of the building. Prefer to avoid the queues? Then make sure you arrive at the theatre on time. We advise you to arrive no later than half an hour beforehand. If there are time slots at your performance, you should stick to them.

Once you have entered through the revolving door, you are in our front hall. Here you will find our cash register and information desk on the left-hand side. This desk has a lowered section in the middle.

The doors to the theatre open 45 minutes before the performance. If you arrive a little earlier, seating is available in the front hall.

Your tickets will then be scanned at the doors to the theatre and you will enter the theatre's tour. Here you will find cloakrooms on both the left and right. There are no adapted cloakrooms, so you can use any available.

If you come by taxi, it is possible to stop temporarily in front of the entrance. As this part of the road is at the same level as the pavement, you can easily enter the theatre.

We will be happy to help you order a taxi after the performance. To do so, please speak to the front porter (in the red jacket).

If you would like to come to Carré by your own transport, you can choose from several options, namely:

Custom parking (Nieuwe Prinsengracht opposite house numbers 2 and 4)
+/- 80 m from Carré, a 2-minute walk away.

If you hold a disabled parking card, you may park in one of these two spaces around the corner from the theatre. The parking spaces can be reached by car from Sarphatistraat. Once you have parked your car, you can walk towards the theatre via the pavement behind the car. This route is obstacle-free.

Be careful when getting in and out, as the adapted parking spaces are situated right after a curve.

The dimensions of the parking spaces are 310 cm by 500 cm and 255 cm by 500 cm, respectively.

Q-Park Centrum Oost (Wibautstraat 3B, 1091 GH Amsterdam)
+/- 800 m from Carré, a 10-minute walk away.

In cooperation with Q-Park, Carré offers the possibility to reserve a parking space. You can order a parking ticket for Q-Park Centrum Oost via Q-Park. Click here to be redirected to the website to order a parking ticket.

Q-Park Centrum Oost has five adapted parking spaces on the first level of the garage. These are marked on the floor of the garage.

It is also possible to first drop off visitors at the main entrance of Carré (Amstel 115-125, 1018 EM Amsterdam) and then park the car at the car park.

Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs with a harness, such as guide dogs for the blind, are welcome in the theatre. We ask you to contact the Holland Festival box office before buying tickets.

Need assistance with your visit?
As a theatre, we believe it is important to offer you personal service. It can sometimes be very busy in Carré and it is sometimes difficult to navigate our historic building. That is why we are happy to guide you during your visit. Of course, if you prefer to go through the theatre on your own, this is also possible. The accessibility map is available at the box office. If you would like to use extra assistance during your visit, please contact 020524 9444 for assistance when you are already in the building; for example, when going to the theatre auditorium or when using the lift to the Grand Café.

If you would like to use an assistive device such as a walker, wheelchair or loop, for example, please ask at the box office and information desk or a member of staff. If you would like to reserve them in advance of your visit, please send an email to [email protected].
