At age 79, Brazilian music legend Arthur Verocai is coming to the Netherlands with the music from the 1972 album with which he challenged the musical conventions of the time. The producer, arranger and guitarist will work with the Metropole Orchestra and young artists he inspired for this unique performance in The Concertgebouw.

Many say it is one of the best albums ever made. The 29-minute masterpiece expertly blends different musical influences and embodies the sound of Brazil at the seventieswith strings, guitars, pianos, breakbeats, basslines, synthesizers, vocals, saxophone and percussion. Bossanova, samba, jazz, MPB, psychedelica and funk combine effortlessly.

The album was recorded in Rio de Janeiro and produced, arranged and directed by Arthur Verocai himself. It transcends the genre of Brazilian music and resounded to many other musicians. Verocai’s album was often sampled by artists from the hip hop scene, including MF Doom, Ludacris & Common, Little Brother and Action Bronson, adding to its cult status.

Many musical greats contributed in the making of the album at the time, from the magnificent singers Célia, Carlos Dafe and Oberdan (Banda Black Rio) to percussionist Pedro Santos and Paulo Moura on saxophone. This time, Verocai will be conducting the Metropole Orchestra and he will be accompanied by young(er) guest artists for whom he was an inspiration. An evening you do not want to miss!
